Bridges have been a popular and effective solution for restoring smiles for many years and can be used for single or multiple missing teeth.

A dental bridge works by securing artificial teeth to natural teeth, “bridging” the gap between them. Bridges are usually made from an amalgamation of metal and porcelain, or just porcelain; the material used will depend on which of your teeth need treatment. We can also use zirconia which is harder & more natural than your traditional metal & porcelain materials.

When might you need a bridge?

A bridge is a viable option when you don’t have many missing teeth or if your missing teeth are all on one side of the mouth. It is essential to tackle tooth loss as soon as possible in order to prevent your remaining teeth from moving into the vacant spaces. As well as affecting your mouth’s function, missing teeth can also have a negative impact on self-esteem and confidence by not smiling in photographs or just being conscious of your missing tooth.

What can you expect from treatment?

A bridge is comprised of two or more crowns that are placed on either side of the space left by the missing tooth, acting as anchors for a false tooth to be sited in between. After an initial consultation to assess your suitability for a bridge, we will take digital scans of your mouth, which will inform the design of your custom-made bridge. We will then prepare your teeth so that they can accommodate the bridge once it has come back from the off-site dental lab.

What are the benefits of a dental bridge?

  • A dental bridge will restore your smile’s function and aesthetics.
  • You’ll feel more comfortable about showing your smile, especially if the teeth that were missing were those most visible when you smile.
  • We create the crowns used as part of your bridge to fit in with your existing teeth, matching both colour and shade.
  • Improved quality of life as a result of the above.
