What can an NHS dentist do for me?

1st December 2015

Regular dental appointments are vital for your health, yet many people struggle to find an NHS dentist. That’s why Moonlight Dental Surgery in Slough is proud to offer the full range of NHS dental treatments, from a highly experienced, dedicated team of dentists.

The cost of treatment from an NHS dentist is calculated by band (see our fees page for full details, and a full list of patients who are exempt from paying charges).

If you are looking for an NHS dentist you may be wondering what treatment they can provide. Here are some of the treatments your dentist can offer:

Examination, diagnosis and advice

Dentists recommend having a check-up at least once a year. At our Slough dental practice we believe in preventative dentistry, stopping problems before they start. If x-rays are needed they will also be taken at this time. Even if we find you need no treatment we may provide hygiene or dietary advice.

Scale and polish

Your dentist may also clean your teeth with a scale and polish if necessary, to remove any plaque that’s built up.

Fillings

Most fillings on the NHS are metal amalgam fillings, although white fillings may be used near the front of your mouth.

Root canal treatment

If your tooth gets infected, your NHS dentist will clean it out with a root canal treatment, under local anaesthetic.

Extractions

We will always try to save your tooth, but if we can’t, your dentist will remove it under local anaesthetic.

Crowns

Crowns are caps placed on top of teeth to strengthen them.

Bridges

Bridges are used to replace one or two missing teeth. They comprise a false tooth/teeth supported by crowns or wings that your dentist will place on adjacent teeth

Dentures

Dentures are used to replace missing teeth. They may be full or partial, depending on how many teeth need replacing.
