When to call the emergency dentist

Updated: Sep 25, 2018

Many situations constitute a dental emergency – when you need to see a dentist straight away. At Moonlight Dental Surgery in Slough, we will always try to see emergency dental patients on the same day when possible.

Dental emergencies don’t keep to schedules and can happen at any time of the day or night. The sooner your contact our Slough practice, the more chance you have of seeing a dentist on the same day.

What is a dental emergency?

A dental emergency can range from a lost or broken tooth to a sudden, unbearable toothache, broken bridges or braces to excessive bleeding after a tooth extraction. Here are some of the reasons you may need to see a dentist urgently:

Lost teeth

Teeth can be knocked out in accidents such as trips and falls or as a result of sports injuries. If your tooth is knocked out, you need to get to a dentist as soon as you can. If you still have the tooth, your clinician may be able to re-implant it into the socket. Avoid touching the root (bottom) part of the tooth and keep it clean, either in a small pot containing milk or your own saliva or between your tongue and cheek in your mouth.

Broken teeth

Teeth are also frequently broken through accident and injury. Again, you need to see a dentist straight away. They may be able to restore your tooth with a crown, filling or composite material.

Toothache

Pain is the body’s way of telling you something is wrong. If you experience unbearable toothache, you should get in touch with a dentist. At Moonlight Dental Surgery in Slough we will never leave a patient in pain. You may have to come back for more treatment to fully correct the problem, but we will ensure you are comfortable.
