Learn the Benefits of Choosing Six Month Smiles

12th January 2015

Have you considered straightening your teeth in the past, but haven’t wanted to spend a year or more wearing highly visible traditional braces, or perhaps you have investigated clear aligners but have been put off by the price? In which case, we’d like to talk to you about Six Month Smiles in Slough.

Six Month Smiles can treat a wide variety of common orthodontic problems which include:

  • Teeth that are overcrowded
  • Teeth that have unsightly spaces in between them
  • Overbites where the upper teeth overlap the lower teeth by too much
  • Overjets where the front teeth protrude too much
  • Underbites where the lower teeth protrude too far forward of the upper teeth
  • Crossbites where the upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth on one or both sides of your mouth
  • Open bites where the front teeth fail to bite together

Six Months Smiles can also correct the alignment between your upper and lower teeth, as the two upper and two lower front teeth should line up perfectly, with a clear centre line.

There are lots of benefits of choosing this system, but the main ones include:

  • The wires used to move teeth are extremely discreet as they are very thin and tooth coloured
  • Using the latest technologies can help this braces system reposition teeth far more quickly than conventional orthodontics
  • Six Months Smiles in Slough uses low forces to gently reposition the teeth, keeping discomfort to a minimum
  • The cost of treatment is much lower compared to traditional braces or clear aligners

Treatment is very straightforward. During your initial free consultation at the Moonlight Dental Surgery, Dr Jaswinder Gill will take photographs and possibly x-rays to determine the overall health of your teeth, and to see if treatment is suitable. You’ll also learn the full cost of treatment, and the predicted time to complete the movement of your teeth. If you decide to go ahead, then your braces can be fitted at your next appointment, using special patient trays that are fabricated at the Six Months Smiles laboratory.

Once the braces are in position then you’ll simply need to book regular check-ups every 4 to 5 weeks, but these only take about 15 minutes or so and are simply to make small adjustments to the fitting of your brace, continuing the tooth movements.

Treatment is generally completed within six months or less, so it’s quite easy to plan ahead if you have a special event to attend quite soon, perhaps a wedding or other celebration. Once you braces are removed you will need to wear a retainer to prevent the teeth from moving back to their original positions. This is absolutely standard for all types of orthodontic treatment. You can either opt for a retainer that is permanently bonded onto the back surfaces of your teeth so it cannot be seen, or you may want to choose a removable retainer that is worn overnight. Dr Gill will discuss both options with you, but if you are likely to forget to wear your retainer you might want to have it permanently bonded in place so it is always working to ensure your new smile looks great.
