NHS dentist charges: what you need to know

3rd May 2016

Charges to see an NHS dentist were increased by the government on April 1 2016. At our Slough practice we welcome new NHS dental patients. The charges are set to rise again in 2017, so if you are looking for NHS care you should come in for a consultation soon rather than later. Not only will this help to save you money before the second round of price rises, it will also ensure that your oral health is maintained or restored, helping to avoid the need for more costly treatment in the future.

Many patients are exempt from paying charges to see an NHS dentist – for example, those under the age of 18, and those aged 19 and in full-time education. If you think you may be exempt from paying charges, get in touch with the reception team here at our Sloughdentalpractice and they will be happy to help you.

New charges to see an NHS dentist

The services of an NHS dentist are priced in bands. The cost of these bands in 2016/17 is:

Band 1: £19.70 – This covers a general examination including x-rays if necessary, diagnosis, advice, a scale and polish, and further treatment planning.

Band 2: £53.90 – As well as everything covered in Band 1, Band 2 includes additional treatment such as fillings, root canal treatment, and tooth extraction.

Band 3: £233.70 – This includes the treatments covered by Bands 1 and 2, and also covers more complex procedures, including prosthodontic work such as dentures, crowns, and bridges.

Providing high-quality NHS dental care to anyone who needs it is very important to the whole team at our Slough clinic, and our NHS dentists have the same level of experience as some of top practitioners in the industry. They are all committed to delivering the highest-quality care in a relaxed, patient, and stress-free manner.
