Our newsletter: There’s no catch…

4th May 2020

We hope you and your loved ones are keeping safe and well and we want to thank you for your continued support and understanding during these difficult times.

Our promise is to keep in touch with you and keep you updated with our situation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As stated in last week’s update, at present there has been no change in the guidance from the Government and NHS England, we must remain closed until further instruction.

Free dental health report without leaving the house

Given the current global situation we realised that we needed to be doing more to continue to help patients with their dental needs. We are excited to share that we have teamed up with SmileMate and their fantastic facility to enable patients to access accurate dental advice without leaving home.

With SmileMate we are able to provide you with a fully comprehensive dental report without you having to leave the house.

With just a few clicks, and a couple of photos of your teeth, you will receive a detailed report on your oral health, and suggestions where required, all within less than 10 minutes!

“What’s the catch?” you might ask….. None! It is a completely free service that we are providing to you to help you maintain a good oral health during this global pandemic.

Give it a try now by clicking the button below and within 10 minutes you will see exactly what we are talking about.

Are you looking after your smile?

It is important, now more than ever, to make sure you are taking care of your teeth. Here are some of our top tips for keeping your mouth healthy;

Don’t go to bed without brushing your teeth

It’s no secret that the general recommendation is to brush at least twice a day. But brushing before bed gets rid of the germs and plaque that accumulate throughout the day.

Brush properly

The way you brush is equally important — in fact, doing a poor job of brushing your teeth is almost as bad as not brushing at all. Unremoved plaque can harden, leading to calculus buildup and gingivitis (early gum disease).

Don’t neglect your tongue

Plaque can also build up on your tongue. Not only can this lead to bad mouth odour, but it can lead to other oral health problems. Gently brush your tongue every time you brush your teeth.

Treat flossing as important as brushing

Flossing is not just for getting those little pieces of food or broccoli that may be getting stuck in between your teeth. It’s really a way to stimulate the gums, reduce plaque, and help lower inflammation in the area.

Drink more water

Water continues to be the best beverage for your overall health — including oral health.

Eat crunchy fruits and vegetables

Eating fresh, crunchy produce not only contains more healthy fibre, but it’s also the best choice for your teeth.

Limit sugary and acidic foods

Ultimately, sugar converts into acid in the mouth, which can then erode the enamel of your teeth. These acids are what lead to cavities. Acidic fruits, teas, and coffee can also wear down tooth enamel. While you don’t necessarily have to avoid such foods altogether, it doesn’t hurt to be mindful.

If you need us….

We understand, if you suffer a dental problem at home this could be a daunting and distressing experience for you. Especially knowing you cannot just visit us like you normally would. However, we are still here to help! Our phone line is still operational during our opening hours. Currently we are still providing telephone advice for patients who are experiencing dental emergencies. We would ask that patients avoid calling 111 where possible and contact us as normal if they have a query.

Alternatively, we are offering video appointments with Dr Gill. This allows you to see Dr Gill and speak to him regarding any dental problems you may be experiencing.
