I was very excited for my visit today with Dr Gill at Moonlight Dental Surgery in Slough, to have my braces off appointment and finally see my results.
Dr Gill first asked me how everything had been and explained that this visit was going to be different to the others as he would be removing my braces and then fitting my permanent retainers.
First Dr Gill took off the rubber rings holding the wire in place off, followed by the wires. Then he took off the brackets one by one. This was simple and painless. He then cleaned my teeth in preparation for the retainers to go on.
I then was offered a break to have a rinse before we carried on. As usual, Dr Gill and his nurse frequently asked me if I was ok and Dr Gill explained every step throughout the treatment.
To fit the retainers Dr Gill filed a little off the back of my teeth. He then used some liquid to clean the back of my teeth ready to stick on the retainers. He washed this liquid off and then added a little bond to each tooth (front 6 teeth upper and lower). Once the bond was ready Dr Gill placed the small retainer wire one the relevant teeth and covered them in a composite to set. This process was also simple and pain free.
I have to admit I was nervous about having a permanent retainer but I was very surprised and pleased with the results. It is barely noticeable to me and not at all noticeable to others. This was a great relief to me. I must also say it is perfectly comfortable.
I then had impressions taken for my removal retainer. Dr Gill explained these would be ready to collect in about a week. I will be wearing the removable retainer at night to help maintain my great results. Dr Gill explained that the retainer is a small clear guard that sits comfortably over my teeth. (I collected this retainer a week later and it is fine, after the first one or two nights I found I don’t even notice it’s in which is great).
Once everything was finished Dr Gill gave me a mirror to check the results. I was over the moon! My teeth look fantastic compared to before, I feel so confident when I smile now.
I am so glad I finally went ahead and had this treatment. It has literally changed my life; I used to be so insecure about my teeth and now I don’t have to be.
