You should always see a dentist as soon as possible if you break a tooth – even if it is not causing you pain. At Moonlight Dental Surgery in Slough we have a number of ways to repair a broken tooth. The key to successful restoration (and, ultimately, saving your tooth) is visiting the dental practice as soon as possible after breakage occurs.
Teeth are vulnerable and easily damaged by injuries and accidents. Sports injuries, road traffic accidents, trips and falls are all common causes of broken teeth, while teeth weakened by decay are also prone to breakage.
Even a small chip or crack in a tooth should prompt a visit to your dentist, because even tiny cracks can be enough to let infection into the pulp of your tooth, potentially leading to pain, discomfort, and the need for root canal treatment.
At our Slough dental practice, our dentists have a number of ways in which they can restore a broken tooth, giving back both functionality and a pleasing aesthetic appearance. The ideal method in your case will depend on a number of factors, including the amount of damage to your tooth and where that tooth is in your mouth.
Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain placed over the front surfaces of the front teeth. They can give added strength and improved appearance to chipped or cracked front teeth.
Dental crowns are caps for broken or otherwise weakened teeth. They may be made from ceramic, porcelain, gold, or a combination of materials. At our Slough practice we have a CEREC machine meaning that, in many cases, you require just one visit to the dentist for a ceramic crown, veneer, or onlay to be made.
For minor repairs, your dentist may use white filling material in a technique known as composite bonding.
